About the Staffordshire History Centre Project
Bringing together three incredible collections, from the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Archive Service, the County Museum and the William Salt Library, the Staffordshire History Centre project was made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, plus support from other funders.
The centre includes an extension to the existing Staffordshire Record Office on Eastgate Street in Stafford and incorporates the William Salt Library buildings. The Library buildings have been restored and tell the story of this much loved heritage building and William Salt’s collection. A modern glazed link between the Library and the record office has created a new entrance and permanent exhibition space to showcase our collections. The SHC also offers a county wide programme of outreach activities for schools, families, community groups and the public.
New strong rooms have been built providing space for a further 50 years of collections, and our new learning space allows us to create an exciting educational offer for schools and courses for adult learners. In addition there is a dedicated space for our team of volunteers to support the service.
Staffordshire Archives and Heritage collections are nationally important stretching back over 1000 years and the Staffordshire History Centre enables us to make these fascinating items accessible to a wide audience. We look forward to welcoming you!
